A lone blue heron sits atop a nest at a time of day known as “the golden hour” (near dusk). This is a time of day when many humans are also at home, alone or with their nuclear families. While there is comfort in the safety and familiarity of the nest or the home - represented by the warmth of the gold and the encircled leaves around the bird’s upper body-, there is also a slight sense of unease or longing, perhaps for companionship, shown in the open beak and the activated posture.
